AdBlue® in special pumps at Shell retail stations
AdBlue® is a nontoxic urea solution that is used by modern diesel engines for the reduction of exhaust emissions.
Now every truck and bus manufacturer produces models that require the use of AdBlue in special tanks.
AdBlue® is not mixed with fuel but is used by catalysts with SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) technology to reduce nitrogen oxide (NOx) levels.
AdBlue® is sprayed into the exhaust pipe before the exhaust reach the catalyst. The high temperature that is developed converts AdBlue® to ammonia. Consequently, as ammonia and the harmful nitrogen oxides (NOx) pass through the catalyst, react to each other and are converted to nitrogen and water vapor, two elements which are not harmful for the environment.
